Memo #293

July14

Dear Management:

I understand that you instruct your employees to round up the carts often to keep them from clogging the parking lot and from being damaged by jerks who leave them floating around to be hit by cars.  Completely reasonable.  But as a mom of 2 very young children, I have a request.  Please, please, please, please leave a couple of your double carts in the cart corrals.  When I have 2 hot, cranky, hungry kids and I am 1 hot, cranky, hungry momma, I need instant access to a cart.  I don’t want to carry my baby while trying to hold tightly to my toddler’s hand and juggle my reusable grocery bags and my purse and my keys all the way up to the store and then go searching for a double cart.  My dream parking space would be under a tree next to a cart corral containing a double cart.  I don’t care if it is in the last row of the parking lot if it is shaded and has a double cart waiting for me.

While you are at it, could you plant a few shade trees?  Thanks.

Signed,

A momma with only 2 hands

dsc09972Home Depot, probably not by desigh, had a double cart waiting for us (but sadly no shade tree) today.  Target did not.  I actually played a game of chicken with a mini van to park next to the 1 cart return that had a double cart in it…I lost.  Then once inside the store, I couldn’t find a double cart with functioning straps.  I never thought about these things before children but now they really effect how I view my shopping experience.

dsc09983One of the things we dislike about renting is that we can’t paint or plant anything.  We finally cleaned out and gave up our storage unit (we should own the 10×10 piece of land after the rent we’ve paid over the past 2 years) and I got my big pots back.  So I bought a hanging basket of petunias (folks love their pentunias down here) and one of impatients on sale for $3.33 each and made our front walk a little prettier.  Assuming I don’t kill them…but hey those herbs are all still alive!

AMEN on leaving a few carts out in the parking lot. Sometimes I just use the stroller and fill the resuable shopping bags as I shop…then empty them again as I pay. Not an option if you’re buying a case of diapers…but okay for lighter trips. Your flowers are pretty! I love the pretty blue pots.

One thing with carts in a summer parking lot — they are too hot to sit in!

We actually have one store that won’t let you take double carts outside! What’s the point of having them if you can’t use them?! Be glad you have two little ones and not three (I don’t mean for that to sound bad, I do love them all dearly). We look like a train going through the store. I push the double stroller and pull the cart so everyone has a seat and I have room to put food.
