Next up – her own apartment

March11

Grandma departed yesterday.  Sabrina is quite sad but seems sort of satisfied by the explanation that Grandma had to go see Pap-pap.

We put off moving Tessa into her own room until after my mother in law’s visit.  Last night was the night.  I bought a dark curtain for her window and that sealed the deal.  Tessa has officially moved into her own room.

I was mostly ready for the transition.  But the swiftness with which my husband removed all evidence of Tessa from our room was rather dizzying.  Tessa wasn’t even asleep yet when he had her pack n play broken down, into its storage bag, and stowed in a corner of the garage.  He wasn’t giving me any chance to turn back once I agreed.

It went pretty well.  We had to go in and comfort her twice early in the night and then she slept through until morning.  Most of her naps have been of the cat variety today but I can’t really blame that on the crib – she just doesn’t always nap well.

Any tips for moving a 2.5 yo out of the bed? 🙂 Should I be directing that question to your husband? lol!

Or perhaps tips for a 3.5 yo?? 🙂 I actually moved Hannah’s twin bed INTO my rearranged master bedroom – thinking, okay – one step at a time. Logically assuming that if I get her to move over to the twin bed to sleep at night, I can gradually move the twin bed to the kitchen, then the living room, then into her bedroom. So much for logical thinking. (I must have been zoning to think “logical” and “three year old” in the same thought.) She took one look at her twin bed, which is approximately 3 feet from my bed, turned to me and said “No, Mom… I am not sleeping there.” It’s been two weeks and the twin bed is still empty at night. But it makes a fine place to fold clothes when I’m doing laundry 🙂

Good job, Mom. I know how tough that it. But, you will all be better rested in the end!! She is getting looking so grown up–could you talk to her about that?? HUH!! What is with men and their lack of emotion when we move our babies into their own rooms?? HEartless!!!;>) Let me know Tessa’s new address and I’ll send her flowers!!

I am so happy/heartbroken/proud for and of you. Hard step, but eventually you’ll Thank God for the privacy.
Shelby still lays down with me some to “read books” before getting into her own bed. Amazing how close she is on the verbatim “reading” of some of her books. Guess that’s what having the same books read 5,000 X’s over does for you. I enjoy that quiet time with her.
Remember the days when we read for hours and hours, now lucky to squeeze in an hour a week. Good trade off though, babies over free time to read, drink, hang out…wait mostly a good trade off. Need some of those hang out times back once in a while.
