Adjustment of expectations

March8

I’ve spent a bit of time complaining and being grumpy about the cold we’ve experience in our first Southern winter.  We really didn’t expect to see snow multiple times and have sustained cold temperatures.  I’m hoping next winter I have a more realistic expectation because I’m tired of being grumpy over the cold.  I know our friends and family in the north are dealing with words like blizzard right now.  But I was still surprised to wake up to 5 inches of snow.  There are steps under there – apparently our apartment complex doesn’t consider snow removal part of their job.

And a little Sabrina cuteness to balance out the cold.  (No that box behind her doesn’t mean I’ve gotten organized and already started packing for our move.  It means that box of books we’ve been meaning to donate to the library since we moved here still hasn’t left the house.)

I still can not get over how much older she looks than when I saw her (ages ago I know but still)

I suffered from this precise affliction when we first moved to Chapel Hill.

it didnt snow much when we were there (ice instead) but even the cold temps made me grumpy when back from whence I came it was FAR CHILLIER.

You should have moved a little further south like Charlotte, NC. It didn’t snow once here this winter.

I know you moved and hoped to get away from it… but to ME… this is the best snow we have had since 2004 at least… maybe before! We are loving it… putting on our best layers because we do not own snow suits. The boys have played and sledded all morning ( although it is not the good kind that builds good snowmen)

FUN STUFF for this southern girl! It will be gone by the 60 degrees expected Tuesday

I currently have 1 foot on the ground, I am under a blizzard warning until Sunday at 4p with another 13 to 20 inches expected!!!!!! Some places have declared a state of emergency and no one is allowed on the roads except for emergency personnel (who I bet are currently questioning their career choice). Even the weatherman is like “Holy Hell”.

Just thought I would give you a little perspective Southern lady. So ya’ll hang in there and I’ll let you know when I can leave this house.

I know – isn’t this crazy? We have about 6-7 inches right now, and it’s still coming down (but much slower). Parts west of Louisville are under 11-13 inches. This is the most snow this area has seen in a long time. 🙂 (and Sabrina is just too adorable!)

We enjoy our 1-2 days of snow a year. I would hate to have it all the time, but when we do get it – we have a ball. Here’s what you need to know. Everything will shut down. Why? Because we don’t have the equipment to clear the snow. Why spend a bunch of money on something that rarely happens? No one thinks to have salt on hand to clear steps, etc. When you adjust your expectations just look at the snow as something you will enjoy in small amounts with the possibility that every office and school will shut down. Enjoy it and have fun laughing at all the southerners who think a few inches of snow is the best thing since sliced bread. Don’t think that it is safe for you to drive if everyone says it is not. More accidents happen from those from the North thinking we are crazy and trying to prove it. But they forget that our streets are not clear and we get lots of black ice and no one else knows how to drive so you are putting yourself in harm’s way. My dad from the Bronx learned this the hard way many years ago 🙂
