I laughed, I cried

January6

Of course considering the amount of hormones coursing through my veins right now that could just be from reading the back of a cereal box. (Seriously, Mythbusters on Discovery made me tear up today. Don’t ask. Steve laughed at me so you don’t need to.)

Cynthia and I went to see Juno this afternoon. Loved it! I love the main character – she cracked me up! The labor scene didn’t scare me too much (bonus points). I could relate to it both as a pregnant woman and an adoptive mom. I had a few tears at a couple of different points but no embarrassing sobs. There was a slight creepy factor with one situation and I wish they had dealt a little more with the emotional aspect of the girl putting her baby up for adoption – but I recommend this movie.

And for those, like my mother, who fear it is glorifying teen pregnancy – it isn’t. Besides it is the parents’ responsibility to discuss these issues with their teens, not Hollywood’s. Okay, hopping off the soap box.

Funny my MIL said the same thing about the teen pregnancy thing as your mom.

I liked the movie, but I too wish they delt a little more with Juno’s true emotions instead of always covering it with the funny sarcasm. Creepy, yes that was weird and unexpected.

And I cried quite a bit at the ending.

Oh, I was just about to write something on my blog about this movie, too. I *LOVED* it. I think I need to go see it again.

I loved it too. The labor scene did not freak me out either. I am crying at the strangest things lately too.

Mythbusters??? MYTHBUSTERS?!?!?!?! I’ve watched just about every episode and have done plenty of laughing BUT I have never cried watching Mythbusters!!!

I really want to see Juno, but probably won’t until it’s on HBO. I hate going to the movie theaters around here, the kids are so disrespectful. OH BOY, I guess I am turning into an old fogey:)

Ok, I am off to see this movie now. I guess I missed what that one was about….

Glad that you are keeping Steve amused!!

I really liked it — I think we both wiped a little tear away at the same time (and I don’t have any additional hormones to blame). But I also agree with the comments here about the creepy thing and Juno’s over-sarcasm. Although I think one of the worst times was when she first met the PAPs — and it was such an obvious defense mechanism; her acting was really just so great. Anyway, it was no Mythbusters, but still a great movie!

Hey there I was just letting you know that we finally got our referral! She is a beauty. It has been a LONG road but we couldn’t be more thrilled.
Crying due to Mythbusters…funny. The Johnson and Johnson commercials made me cry in my first trimester so I shouldn’t laugh…but alas…I must.
    Take good care of yourself.

I really want to see that movie – I think it might be hard for me though. The emotions that come along with an open adoption and knowing your child’s birth mother very well – HHHMMMM…. lets just say that I am so not even close to completly dealing with all that came along with that event in my life – I think I should wait to see that movie.

I will add that I totally agree with where the responsibility about parents educating their kids. It is a sad time in America. So many kids are left to learn about sex from Cialis and viagra commercials and thinking that Victoria Secret models are average women;)

I hate how the media is distorting our children’s views. Pro-active and responsible parenting – I wish it was a common thing!

and since I am just spreading my opinions all over your bog today –
I think there should be more required education for adoptive families – like – how it feels when the adoption is over –

I was not prepared – AT ALL!!!!

    Glad you are doing ok:)

Wasn’t it great!? I told you (in my comments, I don’t know if you checked back) that the labor scene wasn’t too bad. I teared up though at certain parts too. I loved it though!

I haven’t seen Juno yet, but my best friend just saw it and she loved it as well.

I will definitely add it to the “Must See” list. (of course, that’s probably going to turn into the “Must See it as soon as it’s on cable” list!)

Totally oved Juno. Saw it with a recent bio birth mom and we both sobbed over different parts and some of the same parts. I think I know of the creepy that you speak of… don’t want to spoil it for others, but…the hairs on the back of my neck stood up a few times. I loved this movie..loved Ellen Page and LOVED the scene in the nursery at the end… I said the same exact thing to my husband on video..what a trip. OH and a big shout out to Allison Janey…loved her character and would have given big money to come from such a loving family. (shh don’t tell my mom)
