Shut up and give me coffee

May18

I was in one of those frou-frou cafes this morning to buy a cup of coffee. The woman in front of me was trying very hard to find something to eat for breakfast. The woman wanted 2 scrambled eggs and soft bread toasted. The snotty café employee was offering a frittata and a nice 12 grain (hard crusted) bread toasted. They don’t serve plain scrambled eggs and don’t have grocery store loaves of bread to toast up.

As I stood there, I couldn’t decide who to be annoyed with (because I had to be annoyed with someone…they were standing between me and my coffee – I had to get up at the ass crack of dawn this morning so I really needed it). Should I be annoyed with the customer for choosing this obviously frou-frou place when there are several other diner-type choices on the block which would happily scramble her some eggs and toast her some Wonder bread? Or should I be annoyed at the snotty café employee for looking down her nose at the customer’s pedestrian tastes and not just taking the eggs she would use to make the frittata and scrambling the damned things for the lady? See the difficult decisions I have to grapple with every day?

By the way, the coffee was as bitter as the snotty café employee.
