Not a lot of smiles today
Miss Sabrina and I have had a rough day and 1/2. We have been battling over naps and bedtime and eating in the bumbo seat (she’s decided she doesn’t want to sit in it). She got up at 4am wanting a bottle then didn’t want to go back to bed (but mommy wanted to of course). So we’ve both been a little cranky. I did a self portrait for Steve and ended up cropping me out because my dark circles were so awful I looked like I have a long term illness of some sort. Good things today: I made some kick ass guacamole and Sabrina likes her homemade plum applesauce and I finally found some chocolate ice cream.
First Sabrina shows that she hasn’t lost her smile entirely:
Then she gets a serious about her book.
A little smile here.
And finally a silly look that makes me laugh.
Just call me Martha
I had a couple of plums and some apples that needed to be eaten and I am running low on the fruit baby food I brought from the states (the stuff you can buy here is full of sugar) – so I went all Martha Stewart and made some plum applesauce this morning. It was actually pretty quick and simple. It turned out pretty good if I do say so myself – I sampled it before trying to feed it to Sabrina. I figured if Cheri, the anti-cook, could do it I could probably manage too.
Cut it up
Cook it with a little water until fruit is soft
I brought my stick blender so I blended it with a little water until smooth. Voila!
I was talking to my sister yesterday. She expressed disbelief that Sabrina ever does anything but smile. I give you exhibit A – this is what happens when mommy puts her down for 2 minutes so mommy can go to the bathroom – I know, call children protective services. We won’t even talk about what happens if I have to shower and she won’t nap.
May Day
Today is May Day – an official holiday which I sadly don’t know the significance of here in Guatemala. But it warrants a little street fair and lots of people in the park. I wish I was brave enough to eat from the street vendors because it smelled amazing. But I just can’t risk getting sick while I am Sabrina’s only care taker (especially since I think the ninera quit – I’ll let you know for sure on Thursday). I want to share some photos though because I know how much I enjoyed seeing the photos around town from others who were fostering before I came.
The first 2 are street vendors selling lots of food and the third one is people hanging out in the park. The last one of the set is some ruins near where I had dinner tonight. I’m just fascinated by the beauty of even the ruins here.
Now for some Sabrina cuteness. Showing off her tie dye outfit.
Enjoying her chicken and vegetables for lunch today:
The self-portrait for daddy. We were going out to meet Cindi and Cheri for dinner.
Sabrina’s first high chair experience. She was pretty happy with it for awhile but it eventually lost its charm.
